BREAKING NEWS: ETHIOPIAN SECURITY FORCES ACCUSED OF HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS IN OROMIA REGION June 10, 2025 – Oromia, Ethiopia - The Prosperity Party's security forces have been accused of serious human rights abuses in the Oromia region, according to reports by the Oromia National Media - Arrata Biyyoolessa Oromiyaa (ONM-ABO). On June 8, ONM-ABO reported that an elderly man, Obbo Abraahim Imaanaa, was allegedly dragged from his home and executed in front of his family by the Prosperity Party militia in the Gullisoo District. The victim was accused of having contacts with the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), a charge he denied. In another incident on June 4, security forces allegedly looted livestock in the Qilxuu Kaarraa District. On June 7, ONM-ABO reported another shocking incident involving the extrajudicial killing of a young man, Abdullaahii Muusaa, in West Wallagga Zone. Muusaa was reportedly taken from detention and executed by forces loyal to the Prosperity Party. Prior to his execution, he had been detained and allegedly mistreated for two months. ONM-ABO alleges these actions are part of a broader campaign of violence, intimidation, and collective punishment directed at Oromo communities suspected of sympathising with the OLA. The media house accuses the Ethiopian government of war crimes, stating, "These actions amount to war crimes under international law, yet they continue with impunity under the watch of Abiy Ahmed’s government." Residents in the affected areas report increasing fear as federal and regional forces intensify operations under the guise of counter-insurgency. Despite growing international concern over the lack of accountability and transparency, independent access to the area remains limited. As of the time of this report, the Prosperity Party and regional authorities have not issued any statement regarding the alleged human rights abuses.
