Escalating Human Rights Concerns Amid Rising Tensions in Fantaallee and Boosat

Locals Under Duress as Prosperity Party Forces Continue to Impose Their Presence

In late February 2026, human rights issues began to escalate in the Fantaallee and Boosat districts of the East Shaggar zone. Reports from local sources indicate that the Prosperity Party (PP) forces are exerting significant pressure on the local population, leading to heightened tensions and distress among the residents of the Oromia region. The situation reportedly worsened on February 26, 2026, when PP forces and officials began to impose their presence on the Boosat district. Towns such as Saaraaf Araddaa, Bofaa, Beerree Dagaagaa, Nuuraa Heeraa, Golboo Bitimittii, Callee, and Qacaacullee Gujaa have been the primary targets. The forces have allegedly confiscated local properties, causing financial hardships for many residents.

Intensified Pressure and Fear Among Residents

As the situation continued to deteriorate, PP forces and their affiliates reportedly increased pressure on the residents of Saaraaf Araddaa, Gambeelloo, Dhokachoo, and Osolee towns. Locals are living in fear due to the oppressive actions of the PP forces, which include property confiscation, financial penalties ranging from 10,000 to 20,000 ETB, and various forms of intimidation.

Victimisation and Violation of Basic Rights

Several individuals have reportedly fallen victim to the actions of the PP forces. These individuals, including Mr. Dhaabii Bijigaa, Mr. Kaawoo Daadhii, Mr. Daggafaa Maammee, Mr. Guddataa Tsaggaayee, Mr. Nuuree Dachaasoo, Bayyanaa Taaddasaa, Mr. Hirkoo Baqqalaa, Mr. Dachoo Nuuraa, Mr. Qorichoo Addilee, and Mr. Baqqalaa Jimaa, have allegedly been subjected to financial penalties and, in some cases, taken into custody. The exact charges against these individuals remain unclear, but local sources suggest that they are being penalized for their alleged affiliation with the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA). In the Fantaallee district, towns such as Gidaaraa, Ilaalaa, and Xuxxuuxii are also reportedly suffering from worsening living conditions. Locals are being forced to pay fines without any clear reasons, and their basic rights to food, water, and shelter are being violated.

An Emerging Human Rights Crisis

The ongoing pressure and punitive measures imposed by the PP forces on the local population are causing significant distress and hardship. The exact number of people affected by these events and the full extent of the repercussions are yet to be determined. However, the growing concerns among the local population clearly highlight a serious human rights crisis. The international community and human rights organizations must take note of these developments and take appropriate actions to protect the rights and wellbeing of the affected individuals. It is important to note that the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), while mentioned in the context of this article, is not implicated in any wrongdoing related to the aforementioned events. The OLA is a separate entity from the Prosperity Party (PP) forces, and the two are at war over the ast 8 years.
